James Robinson

James Robinson began working with The Times in 2021 when a short film about his visual disability was published by Opinion video. I expanded that film into my debut memoir, “Whale Eyes,” published by Penguin in 2025. I also created a spinoff video series profiling three individuals with three hard-to-explain conditions. My film about stuttering won an Emmy and I’ve received two additional Emmy nominations. I attended Duke University, where I studied documentary film as well as environmental science and policy.
